Summery :Acivir, also commonly known as Aciclovir is an antiviral agent. It is used to treat infections caused by certain types of herpes viruses. It treats cold sores surrounding the mouth, shingles, chickenpox and genital herpes. However, it accelerates healing of the existing sores and prevents formation of new sores while decreasing pain and irritation caused by the infection. Acivir 5% w/v is manufactured by Cipla Ltd, India.
Uses :The drug is majorly taken by patients who are suffering Herpes Zoster Infections, Genital Herpes and Chickenpox. Since the viruses causing these infections continue to live in the body, the drug does not cure the virus and infection entirely. Acivir 5% W/W Cream only decreases the length and severity of these outbreaks. Acivir 5% W/W Cream can reduce the risk of the virus spreading to other parts of the body and causing serious infections in patients with a lower immunity system.The effect of Acivir 5% w/v is higher if it is started as soon as symptoms appear.
Dosage :Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Ideally ake it 5 times a day (every 3 to 4 hours) for 4 days for cold sores, or as directed by your doctor. Apply enough cream to cover all affected areas (red/tingling/burning areas, sores). In case of a missed dose of Acivir 5% W/W, take it as soon as you remember. If it’s almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
Do's and Don'ts :In case you are allergic to Valacyclovir or if you have any other allergies, talk to your pharmacist. Patients who have had a medical history of Kidney related injuries should use Acivir 0.05% Consult your doctor before breast-feeding. Inform the doctor if you experience any symptoms of tremors, confusion, and seizures.

Acivir 5% W/W might react with the following medicines: Phenytoin Tacrolimus Sulfasalazine It might also react if you have been a kidney patient or have had a neurological condition.
